If you regularly follow health news or read about wellness, you’ve likely been hearing a lot about inflammation. Acute inflammation is our bodies protective response to infection or injury, to a cut or a virus. Your white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, are released into the blood or affected tissue to protect the body from foreign substances. This brings extra blood to the area. Your body is designed for this. But what your body is not designed for is chronic inflammation.
Long-term persistent inflammation can be dangerous
and is linked to almost every major chronic disease.
Here’s why: Your body considers anything foreign to it’s greater health as an invader. Some of the modern invaders to the body are:
> Diets high in white sugar: Sugar triggers the release of inflammatory messengers called cytokines. Elevated cytokines can lead to side effects like joint pain and swelling.
> Refined grains: Modern wheat developed in 1971 is 75% starch, which immediately turns to sugar in the blood, again increasing the release of cytokines, which can create inflammation anywhere in the body.
> Eating a diet that is not organic: Dangerous chemicals in our foods are highly caustic to our delicate organs. As the body sends out white blood cells to attempt to repair the damage, inflammation occurs. Repetitive daily combat with chemicals creates chronic inflammation, exhausting the immune system.
> Carrying extra pounds: Fat cells produce estrogen. The more fat you carry, the more estrogen you have roaming around in your blood stream. Excess estrogen in the body can produce all kinds of problems, starting with chronic inflammation.
> Unchecked stress: Stress puts out the hormone cortisol, which increases your body’s production of inflammatory white blood cells.
Oft times you can not see the swelling in the body. Internal inflammation of the liver, heart, brain, stomach, and joints from these culprits is not always visual.
“Change your habits and change your life” is not just a cute quote. It works in real time. How fast? For many of us, we have spent a life time getting in the shape we’re in. Reclaiming our health takes a reversal of habits over time, but is worth the effort to reclaim your precious life. How do I know for sure? Because that is where I found myself at 53 years old; diagnosed with uterine cancer, a hormonal estrogen based cancer with several other symptoms. All related to inflammation, inflammation and more inflammation. I could barely walk on my feet. One of the culprits of my out of whack lifestyle: I had early arthritis.
When you have arthritis your body is in an inflammatory state, according to the Arthritis Foundation. Before my rebirth, I had spent many years in a deep love affair with pastry. Refined flour and sugars create inflammation in the body. The human foot is made up of 26 bones and 33 joints. Chronic inflammation attacked each one of my joints. I hurt in bed at night when I tried to sleep. I hurt with each step.
You couldn’t see it. My foot did not double in size. But the tiny, tiny joints became inflamed and screamed out when I put my full weight on them when I walked.
But here’s the whole gem of the thing. The universe is designed to forgive. That’s what the repair and rebuild system in our body is all about. When I stopped doing what was causing me pain and disease, my natural healing process was able to take command, according to Nature’s laws.
When I changed my diet to a 100% anti-inflammatory diet of organic fresh pressed juices, rainbow colored salads, plant-based nut milks, when I adopted a gluten free diet, detoxed my body, and committed to an 80% live plant food diet, magic began to unfold. It allowed me to transform all that was in a disease state in my body to wholeness.

DFL’s ALKALINE GREEN LEMONADE
1 head Romaine lettuce
2 stalks celery
1-2 granny smith apples
2 wedges lemon
Feed all of the above through the juicer. Drink right away!
