In our sped up Modern World a monster has made it into our kitchens. It was created after World War II from radar technology developed during the war. It looks so harmless, quiet and convenient on our kitchen counters that it seems almost impossible that it could be doing such great harm to our health.
But microwave ovens emit radio frequency radiation (EMT) that travel through walls and ceilings, as well as you, your children and your dog. In 2011 the World Health Organization officially classified EMT exposure as a ‘class 2B possible carcinogen’. In 1976 the Russians banned microwave ovens to protect the health of it’s citizens. Yet they are found in nearly every American kitchen, day cares, school rooms, dorm rooms and restaurants.
EMT is short for electromagnetic fields that vibrate at a speed of 2.4 billion times per second. The same violent friction and deformations that can occur in our bodies when we are subject to radar or microwaves happens to the foods we cook in a microwave. This warp drive super speed deforms the structure of the molecules in food, creating altogether new compounds unknown to humans or Nature. Studies show that nuking milk, meat and frozen veggies converts it into a carcinogenic substance.
Microwaves are absorbed by sugars and fats in food but not by most plastic, glass, paper or ceramics. Many people nuke food in plastic and paper containers, heating up late night snack foods like pizza or JiffyPop, while carcinogenic toxins leach out of the packaging into the food. (Also think ‘plastic baby bottles’ quick warmed, or thawing frozen breast milk).
The microwave oven industry has been busy for years insisting their product is safe while well meaning scientists continue to prove that they are not. With one out of two American’s contracting cancer in their lifetime, I don’t feel this is a situation we need to have solved by corporations that do not have our best interests in mind. This dangerous kitchen item has no place in a health conscience home. Once you’ve tossed it, it may take a week or two for the family to find new ways to do the same jobs but it’s worth the effort.
