We all tell ourselves food stories…..convenient but untrue beliefs or ideas said privately or out-loud…..that help us put off making true change. Yet change is how we become healthy, it’s a necessity. It’s how we grow. And it’s how we make successful diet change.
Here are 3 common excuses that keep us stuck:
NUMBER ONE:
IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE TO EAT HEALTHY: You might be surprised to learn that some studies have actually found it isn’t more expensive. It all depends on your shopping list. Studies have found that it is less expensive to buy a bag of organic apples to keep at the office than to get a snack at the vending machine every day. One organic apple cost about $1.00 tops. A vending machine snack costs about $3.00. Making your own lunch is always cheaper then eating out. Think of it this way….how much does it cost you to remain unhealthy? And how much money are you losing to time off from work because you are chronically sick, seeing doctors or need to take medication?
NUMBER TWO:
MY WORKPLACE IS SO UNHEALTHY: Office eating can be a pitfall, a sabotaging mine field…if you allow it. My suggestion? Don’t give your personal power away at work by taking on other peoples’s bad habit issues. Give them your blessing and step away. Choose a few BFF co-workers that support your process….that match your health goals.
NUMBER THREE:
MY FAMILY DOESN’T SUPPORT ME: This is the most common excuse for straying away from a healthier diet. This is so close to my heart. If those near and dear to you, a spouse, family member or life partner, are not supportive, don’t make them your ‘go to’ person. Instead, look elsewhere. Don’t expect them to change or be in the same place as you are. Prioritize your health and be motivated knowing you’ll be a better friend, mother or partner if you own your higher vision for yourself. Life favors the persistent and willing.
If you have been procrastinating….putting it off…..telling yourself all kinds of stories why you just can’t make lifestyle change….you might be surprised to find that when you get truly honest with yourself…that your reasons are just that…’Stories’.
If you truly desire to live a life that is aligned with your values, you will have to do what ever it takes.
