Dia de Los Muertos is the traditional Mexican holiday in early November with deep indigenous roots. It’s big here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, our home town. Activities go on all weekend. It ends on Sunday with a two hour parade where thousands of citizens from the community gather together in Day of the Dead make-up and clothing.
It’s believed on this day your deceased relatives return so that you won’t feel so alone, reminding us that the veil between this world and the next is thinner then we think.
This day I thought of my mother. She died of cancer when she was fifty-seven. She fought like a lioness, she so loved life. But she lost. I wished she had lived longer. I wished we could have worked things out. With age, she had grown kinder. With age, I may have been able to polish some of my rough edges and become more forgiving.
I like to think I would have brought my juicer to her house and would have made her fresh pressed juices, organic salads and yummy nutritious blender drinks. I would make her one of my Raw chocolate pies. She would love being fussed over. Perhaps we would have worked on a Raw Detox Plan that would have extended her life. I have now witnessed many miracles, including my own. So many people have great results when they use Raw Food as a healing tool.
I want to share some of the wonderful photos of the parade. It’s the best in the Southwest.
