Have you seen the movie “Fat, Sick and Almost Dead”? Many people have, and many people ask what I think of it. So here goes.
First, if you haven’t seen it, it’s a documentary about this high powered Australian business man who has lived and eaten a high powered diet that has left him fat, sick and almost dead. In the movie he is traveling around the United States with a juicer in the back of his 4×4, living off just raw juices for sixty days while interviewing Americans about their eating habits.
As is so often the case with allowing your body to cleanse from the burden of heavy foods, he sheds his weight and heals from the diseases related to his poor eating habits. He’s a way likable guy, and he may at first lead you to believe that you can cure every ill from a long duration on liquid living food.
I love love juicing. Yet I feel juices alone can be very depleting. My Omega juicer was the first Raw Food tool I purchased when I too was desperate to get well. But this is what worried me about the movie. The liver is often already over worked from our toxic world. To demand it to quickly handle a barrage of fats and chemicals from cleansing with juices alone can further exhaust this miraculous organ. We need to approach cleansing with a more balanced perspective. A varied diet of Raw Living Foods supplies the body with powerful life force nutrients to repair and rebuild our bodies and allow healing to take place.
My two daughters and their families just did a post holiday seven day detox challenge with fresh juices and raw foods from recipes I talk about on my blog. This method of cleansing is so safe that my 17 year old grandson joined in. And of course I was so proud of him!
