We held off for years from getting a Costco Card. For so many obvious reasons. You have to pass mountains of non-foods to get to the few things you can use. And of course we prefer to shop small and local and we love and belong to our Coop. But we finally gave in when the cost of organic carrots leaped up overnight. We need a boat load of organic carrots for workshops and Raw Food Meet-up pot lucks. So there you have it. We surrendered and got the card, even though their giant dump truck grocery wagons scare me.
So while I was in there, I spotted a five pound duffle bag of raw, organic frozen mangoes, and I am still on my deep passion for mangoes, so I grabbed it up. What a bargain! During the summer we are crazy for thick, raw, creamy, cold fruit drinks.
Mangoes are the king of fruits, and not just for their flashy color. They rock when it comes to health benefits. Nutrient packed, extremely rich in minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, fiber and best of all, digestive enzymes. Raw mangoes contain compounds that are involved in fat metabolism and appetite control. We love them for that.
The antioxidant compounds in raw mango fruit has been found to protect against colon and prostate cancer as well as leukemia. Such good news.
This morning I made this fabulous smoothie for us that you may want to try if you too want a thick, raw creamy cold fruit drink.
Mango Love Smooth Recipe
- 1 cup raw coconut milk
- ½ cup organic frozen bananas (I keep some cut up frozen at all times to use quickly)
- ½ cup organic frozen mango chunks
- 1 tablespoon organic raw agave nectar
Simply put everything in a Vita-mix or a high powered blender and blend till super smooth.
Makes 1 serving and drink right away.
