A great fan of the Raw Vegan diet for his own needs, it was Hippocrates who said “It’s not just what you eat, but how well the body can use it” that determines our health.
In the human body digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva, a sticky fluid, begins the enzyme process of breaking down particles into a soft mass as our teeth grind, pound and crush the food.
During my ‘Back to the Land’ years, in the long hot summers, you could watch the milk cows stand in water up to their knees under a tree (I think milk cows have knees!), with a glazed look in their eyes just chewing and chewing and chewing for hours.
But that’s not us. To be honest most human’s have a lot on their minds, and are not the efficient chewers that other mammals are in the animal kingdom.
That’s where the blender comes in.
Blending breaks foods down into small particles so that the body can make better use of the available nutrients. Yummy blender drinks are a great way to make a complete meal. I like mine at the end of the day so I don’t go to bed on a full stomach. This is a great tactic for WeightLoss.
Heres a soup recipe we make in our Vita-Mix.
- Cream of Carrot Soup
- 2 cups carrot juice
- 1 good size avocado
- 1 teaspoon lemon
- 1-3 mashed cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
- Cayenne pepper to taste
Put all the above in a blender, and puree till smooth. To gently warm soup, blend a little longer, the friction will create heat.
Serve with a few raw crackers and a tiny spread of almond butter.
